  2. Acorn are announcing a new PC Emulator upgrade available from the 1st of
  3. January 1992. The upgrade applies in one way or another to nearly all
  4. current owners of a PC Emulator package.

  6. Acorn has just finished the PC Emulator 1.60 upgrade which was offered to all
  7. PC Emulator / MS DOS owners. Acorn have now finished version 1.70 of the
  8. PC Emulator which differs from 1.60 in that it will work on the Acorn
  9. A5000 and has some minor enhancements which will improve how a few DOS
  10. applications run.

  12. It is now possible for people who purchased Learning Curve Packages (ie. use
  13. DR DOS with the PC Emulator) to upgrade to the new emulator.

  15. For PC Emulator / DR DOS owners.

  18. To qualify for this upgrade you must send your original PC Emulator disc
  19. along with the DR DOS Disc Registration Number (the registration number can
  20. be found on the original DR DOS Disc), a cheque/postal order to the
  21. value of £45.82 inc. VAT & P+P (£39.00 ex VAT) made payable to 'Acorn
  22. Direct' and send this with your name and address to

  31. The price for this upgrade is higher than the previous upgrade to 1.60. The
  32. increase in cost is caused by the additional licence fee for DR DOS 5 which
  33. comes as part of the PC Emulator 1.70 upgrade. DR DOS 5 offers many
  34. advantages over 3.41 and shows Acorns commitment to keeping you up to date
  35. with new products.

  40. If you did not upgrade your PC Emulator to version 1.60 and now wish to do
  41. so then you may send your original PC Emulator disc (keep your original MS
  42. DOS Disc). Send the PC Emulator disc along with a cheque / postal order to
  43. the value of £34.07 inc. VAT & P+P (£29.00 ex VAT) made payable to 'Acorn
  44. Direct' to the Acorn Direct address above with details of your name and
  45. address.

  47. For PC Emulator 1.60 owners.

  50. Owners may wish to keep up with new versions of the emulator and therefore
  51. Acorn are offering an upgrade to PC Emulator 1.60 owners.

  53. As the differences between 1.60 and 1.70 are minor it is unlikely you will
  54. benefit from the upgrade. The price of the upgrade between 1.60 and 1.70 is
  55. to cover costs only.

  57. To obtain the upgrade send the small PC Emulator disc (called CGA single
  58. tasking) along with a cheque / postal order to the value of £17.62 inc.
  59. VAT & P+P (£15.00 ex VAT) made payable to 'Acorn Direct' to the Acorn Direct
  60. address above with details of your name and address.

  65. The upgrade offers detailed above start on the 1st January 1992 and expire
  66. on the 27th March 1992.

  70. The PC Emulator is supplied with two versions of the PC Emulator. The fist
  71. is the standard PC Emulator which requires a machine with greater than
  72. 1MByte of memory.

  74. The second is a smaller version for 1MByte machines.

  78. * Hardware emulation of an 8088 PC/XT with Intel 8087 maths coprocessor.

  80. * Co-existence with the RISC OS desktop.

  82. * Support for IBM 3.5 inch 720K floppy disc format.

  86. * Serial and parallel interfaces.

  92. * RISC OS multi-tasking with the PC screen displayed in a window.

  94. * Optional single-tasking, full screen display mode for greater speed. You
  95. can return to the RISC OS desktop with a single mouse click.

  97. * Installable display adapters for MDA, CGA, EGA and partial VGA emulation.

  101. * Up to 576K of PC memory.

  103. * single-tasking, full screen display. You can switch between the PC screen
  104. display and the RISC OS desktop with a simple mouse click.
